IHF Organized Its 5th Charity Coffee Morning

On February 17th, 2018, It’s Humanity Foundation held its fifth Charity Coffee Morning at Hotel Sarina, Banani. The Charity Coffee Morning stood once again as a platform where founders, executives, and trainers from renowned organizations such as World Bank (WB), International Labor Organization (ILO), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Helen Keller International, BRAC, Arla Foods, French School, EMK center, and other non-profit organizations joined in, as they indulged in a 90-minute brainstorming session on quality education for underprivileged children and non-profit organizational development. Our guests raised some imperative points regarding – the quality of education, infrastructure development, human resources, fundraising strategy, student retention, and overall sustainability. *Organizational Mindset and Infrastructure Development Numerous organizations have come to the support of the underprivileged on many occasions but have failed to live up to their potential due to the misunderstanding of the needs of the less fortunate. It is a common misconception to believe that providing one or two of the basic needs actually helps to those who lack everything. Hence, at the very beginning, a non-profit organization must have a non-conservative mindset and it should show how much they are investing in any infrastructures such as – buildings, equipment, and open space. *Human Resources Development Any organization is based and dependent on synergy. The human resources department needs to have the proper know-how, and motivation to serve. Every new employee must be accepted on the basis of not only their capability but also by their ability to adapt to the organization and its causes. Moreover, people must be trained according to the needs of the organization. *Quality Education The syllabus for primary and secondary school still today stresses on things that the children will never need and is presented in a very non-enjoyable fashion. This leads to a lack of attention and even dropouts. By coming up with innovative, interactive and fun methods to educate the children, while incorporating vocational training, schools can provide the tools that the children will need as they grow up. It’s not possible to ensure quality education if retention is a question. As mentioned previously, the teachers must have proper training on how to properly educate underprivileged children, and both teachers and students must be assessed on a regular basis to keep track of progress and loopholes. *Sustainability of the cause No organization can support its target population all the way, but it can provide them a way to live on their own when the support ends. The responsibility of an NPO working on primary education ends when it has completed giving a child the aforementioned primary education. This raises questions about the child’s secondary and higher education. The sustainability of the children’s education can be secured by providing skill development training or vocational training for the parents who will create a better earning opportunity for families as well so that they can afford the child’s higher education. *Financial Stability Any organization should maintain long-term action plans and financial plans for at least 5 to 8 years so that any new plan does not hinder the execution or financial flow of the core projects.
